The Planeswalking Tavern: From Alara With Love, Part 1

This is a series of vignettes centred around a fictional Tavern in the Magic Multiverse.
 
 
CONTRARY to popular belief, there was only one Planeswalking Tavern. And contrary to even more belief, there was only one Peddler who ran the business.

In his opinion, what better business was there than to provide planeswalking services to those that needed them? Plus, with every world visited, a new trinket would be added to his growing repertoire of collector items, which he could easily barter for a handsome price.

This is a series of vignettes centred around a fictional Tavern in the Magic Multiverse.
 
 
NEXT morning the man and woman had breakfast together in the dining hall and they talked about all sorts of things that were of interest to only people such as them. They shared diagrams of inventions and even tried to outplay the other with what they each had invented. It was, for those that understood the scene, a lovely sight.

The Tavern Planeswalks

Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has spoken that on a day not too far from today the tavern shall planeswalk!!
For all those who wish to witness this phenomenon and join the crew on that day, the 'Walk will happen on the 29th of June and will end on the 1st of July.
In lieu of the Great 'Walk, the Tavern will be offloading some pieces of furniture at very low prices. We welcome all fellow 'walkers to come and bid for the furniture to enhance their stature and also prevent us from having to move the objects. the target of the offloading is to empty out the current locale.

IT was New Year’s Eve on this world, much to the delight of The Tavern’s patrons. Though the name of the world itself was lost to them, the celebratory mood permeated the air like the sweet aroma of good hearty stew and everyone felt eager to join in the partying.

Everyone except a small man who wished to not be named.

WHEN he finally left his room, he didn’t make for the bar but instead went to the information counter near the front entrance and spoke to one of the receptionists there. She was a helpful woman and her male counterpart wasn’t any less. The visitor asked them about employment at The Tavern and wondered if there was anything he should be worried about. The receptionists were confident in the abilities of the Magus to keep them safe, as well as the measures that the Peddler had put into place.

SEVERAL years had passed since the inception of The Tavern, and the business had grown from small to medium to a relatively large enterprise. The man in charge of this business was known by many as ‘the Peddler’ or if you were being informal, you could call him ‘Genie’. The Peddler was a happy man with laughing eyes and a curious smile, known for his jokes as well as his merchant prowess and discipline. Though he owned The Tavern, that didn’t mean he did not see reasons to expand his business and diversify. He had a chain of businesses on a selected number of worlds, ranging from engineering to publishing to real estate, all of which were carefully controlled and monitored. How a single person was able to maintain order across such a vast expanse was a secret only the Peddler knew.

“THE Magus?” Zarin exclaimed. “Is that really you? What’s going on? Did I break a law?”

The Magus, highest authority of The Tavern, looked to his left to the bartender. The staff member said, “Sir Zarin, it has come to our attention that you are a performer of considerable skill and determination. It has also come to our attention that business hasn’t been fair to you lately. We have a proposition to make to you. We would like to hire your services and have you work here at The Tavern.”

This is a series of vignettes centred around a fictional Tavern in the Magic Multiverse.
 
ON a normal day, Zarin the Entertainer would be basking in the warm glory of admiration from his audience as he ended his performance, right about this time. Today was a different yarn to spin and so he sat at the bar of The Tavern, contemplating what went wrong.

“What went wrong, of course, was that no one turned up. Why? Why me?  Did I do something to anger the Universe or summat?”

The bartender silently slid a glass across the counter, stopping it in front of the dejected master of entertainment, and flipped a bottle over his shoulder to fill up the crystal-based tumbler.

“Maybe it was a rival,” said the soft-spoken man behind the marble countertop. “It’s a cut-throat industry, surely.”
