The man in question froze in his stride.

“Naga, listen.”

The man focused his sight on the single person that stood above The Tavern, that figure shrouded in robe and the undying wind. Why was the Magus calling to him?

“I know who you are.”

“Naga,” Jéne E. called. “Find the Magus. I’ll assemble the guards. And you,” Jéne E. pointed at the machinist, “start going through your designs and diagrams and come up with the airships’ weaknesses. Report to me in ten minutes.”

The Captain disappeared out the door in mere seconds, followed by Naga who made use of the communication device that Jéne E. had passed to him. The machinist did what he did best, burying himself in his work in solitude.

SOMEONE was snooping around outside the building, someone with possible malicious intent. He would peer into windows, stand on crates to get a better look through small openings, skulk in the shadows to avoid being seen, and stay silent when someone passes by.

This is a series of vignettes centred around a fictional Tavern in the Magic Multiverse.
 
 

NOTHING seemed to prevent the robed figure from approaching the door of the underground building. The person placed a hand on the centre of the double doors that was the entrance into the structure, chanted a spell, then retracted the hand as the doors swung themselves inwards. The figure walked into the gloomy interior of the building, leaving the doors both open and unlocked.

“GENIE!” shouted the man. “Are the ropes secured?”

“I’ve checked them twice!” Jéne E. yelled back.

The party was in a cavern, scaling the sheer face of slippery wet rock as torrents of water poured against them. Jéne E. pulled at the anchors of the ropes, testing their strength, then shouted above the sounds of raging rivers that it was safe to climb.

WHEN the leader woke up, he was no longer in the jungle, and his medical state was not as dire as he could recall. Cool wet towels had been placed on various parts of his body to mitigate his fever, and the curtains had been pulled across the windows to dampen the midday light.
